PLF CEO Carol Bernick and current Board Chair Teresa Statler will review the formation of the PLF, how it works, its mission, benefits and common coverage issues and questions. Carol Bernick is the CEO of the OSB Professional Liability Fund (PLF). Ms. Bernick received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, graduating in 1989. She was an associate, then partner, with Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in Portland, Oregon from 1989 until 2014. She served in many roles including chair of the firm’s Attorney Evaluation Committee; member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Portland office. Ms. Bernick is an experienced trial lawyer, including several significant wage and hour class action cases. She was repeatedly recognized as one of the best employment attorneys in Oregon by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America and one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Oregon by Super Lawyers. She is the recipient of the Peter Perlman Service Award from the Litigation Counsel of America and a Fellow in the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. She previously was a member of the board of the Multnomah Bar Association, where she chaired the Judicial Selection Committee and served on the Court Liaison and Equality and Diversity Committees.
Teresa A. Statler practices exclusively immigration law as a sole practitioner in Portland, Oregon, and has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1991. She obtained her undergraduate degree in French Language & Literature from the College of William and Mary, and her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College. Her law practice emphasizes family immigration, naturalization, asylum issues, and deportation/removal defense. She is a member of the Oregon Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and is the recipient of the 2010 Gerald H. Robinson Award for Excellence in Advocacy, awarded by AILA Oregon. She is also a co-editor of the Oregon State Bar’s 2010 publication, Rights of Foreign Nationals. During the spring semester of 2012, Ms. Statler was an adjunct professor at Willamette University College of Law in the International Human Rights Law Clinic. Currently, she serves as the chair of the Board of Directors of the Oregon State Bar’s Professional Liability Fund (PLF).
